Where Are You Finding Beauty in Your World?

My antennae are up for noticing beauty in the everyday world around us.

Walking a long country lane at the weekend - the first time in ages - I spy a patch of purple Irish orchids peppering the grassy verge.

Tiny and perfectly formed, like Bonsai, these are beauty in miniature - completely different to the larger, taller, more elegant supermarket variety.

Recalling my first ever sighting of wild Irish orchids during a cycling holiday through the Burren in County Clare a quarter of a century ago I was astonished such magnificent wild flowers existed in Ireland - never having seen such divine creations before.

Until now I’d no idea they are also quite profuse in County Donegal’s remote wilderness.

Closer inspection reveals each petal is beautifully formed with the distinctive shape and speckled pattern of their larger orchid cultivar cousins.

Thank goodness for No Mow May.

With a bit of luck many more of these precious blooms are soaking up the magnificent sunshine we are enjoying in the northwest of Ireland today. 🥀 🥀 🥀 🥀 🥀
