Pay Attention

What we focus on grows. You know that old story, the one about the Cherokee Chief and the two wolves?

'One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather:

"Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied,

"The one you feed."

There you have it... what we focus on grows.

It stands to reason, then, that without dismissing them, when we focus on our problems we gives ourselves more of the same, a lot more.

Achieving the step change we need in our people, places and public spaces may seem impossible.

That doesn’t mean it is.

The opportunity exists for us to focus on possibilities. We can consciously grow these.

Leaders at all levels, and their teams, are often unaware of effective tools that, used skilfully, make a big impact in achieving longed for, badly needed, step change - the kind of change that's slipping through our fingers daily.
